Danny DeVito is hinting at the potential for an onscreen reunion with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“Arnold and I want to work together,” DeVito, 78, said in an interview with GQ about his starring role in Broadway’s I Need That.
He humorously remarked, “We missed Twins 2, because he became governor — which, he should have done Twins 2 instead of becoming governor.”
At 76, Schwarzenegger paused his acting career to pursue the California governorship. The Terminator star held office from 2003 to 2011.
Schwarzenegger and DeVito starred together in the 1998 film “Twins,” a buddy comedy directed by Ivan Reitman, which revolved around genetically engineered fraternal twins separated at birth. A sequel to the movie has been in development for years.
Titled “Triplets” and initially set to feature Eddie Murphy and later Tracy Morgan, the project encountered delays following Reitman’s passing in 2022.
DeVito and Schwarzenegger came together in Reitman’s 1994 comedy “Junior,” alongside Emma Thompson. Schwarzenegger played a doctor experiencing a male pregnancy in the film. In another collaboration, in Schwarzenegger’s 1993 movie “The Last Action Hero,” DeVito provided the voice for a cartoon cat detective.

Talking to GQ about his past and future work, DeVito hinted that he and Schwarzenegger “have a little thing going, a little project that we’ve been chatting about.”
When questioned if the project is connected to “Twins,” he replied, “No, it’s just two friends, two guys.”
“Because we have a good time together. We complement each other in a lot of ways.” DeVito continued. “I am way stronger than he is.”
In May, Schwarzenegger confirmed he and the Taxi star were collaborating on a future project.
“I’m developing another movie with Danny,” Schwarzenegger mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter. “He’s so much fun to work with and so talented.” Schwarzenegger additionally stated that the project Triplets didn’t progress due to Jason Reitman, the son of director Ivan Reitman, showing a lack of interest.

During an interview with The Sunday Times in February, DeVito disclosed insights into his enduring friendship with his co-star. “Arnold loves his animals, and he still smokes his stogies,” he shared.
Regarding the array of pets residing on Schwarzenegger’s estate, DeVito commented, “The animals just roam around all over the place.”
The stage production “I Need That,” by playwright Theresa Rebeck and directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, stars DeVito in a role alongside his daughter, Lucy DeVito, and Ray Anthony Thomas.
It marks his second appearance on Broadway, following his debut performance in Arthur Miller’s “The Price,” which earned him a Tony nomination in 2017.
